The Challenges Of Medical Missions In Honduras
Medical missions are being held worldwide in needing countries. honduras is no exception. Medical mission teams travel in remote regions setting-up their clinics in schools or churches.
Of course the first priority is to make sure the place is sanitized and the dogs need to find something else to do for a while. One medical doctor volunteer, Dr. Nathalie Fiset, explained how their team set things up and how each complimented the other and how they quickly organized to help the onslaught of patients;
“Dr Rudy is always my “left- winger” and I can call upon him anytime I need something complicated explained in Spanish to the mother. I see children and women under 35 years old. There are two other doctors who are seeing adults. Dr Jeff Kroll is a urologist and takes care of the minor surgeries with the material we brought. On an average day we see over 1000 people. I counted one day for fun and realized I had seen over 250 patients. Not a bad day at the office. We have to stop at sun down because we have no electricity and it gets pretty dark to see and diagnose when people show us a rash.”
So many of the people in rural Honduras do not understand medicine or how it works. Some think that a magic pill will be given to them. They think that a couple of vitamins will cure their malnutrition. Of course the medical volunteers know it does not work that way, yet still work hard to help any way they can. Some cases are simple others very serious and yet the camaraderie and team work helps them through another long day;
Medical Missions
Have you ever wondered about why there are people who do not have contentment in life despite the fact they are above others? And why there are people who still seek for something when in fact they almost have everything? Do these people think that they are more blessed than others? Maybe the answer is, “probably not!” because they do not yet experienced how to live a life full of misery.
On the other hand, people who do not even experienced a life full of happiness has the perception that they are cursed, that they do not belong to the society, that they are nothing but shadows living in darkness. These people are those who have not yet given the importance by many, but then again life is like a wheel there are times you are above, and there are times you are down. This time the lives of these people who are victims of misfortunes in life have come to change as the groups of people, non-profit organizations, and charitable foundations bring a new light of hope for them. These philanthropists give the poor the chance to speak out their thoughts and concerns on how to make their lives be pulled away from the place of poverty that they are now.
Through medical missions, livelihood programs, trainings and symposiums brought by these organizations, the poor are inspired to continue their journey in life because at last they are now given the importance that they have wanted, the respect and the love that they have dreamed. These philanthropic foundations, groups and organizations are doing such kind acts because they wanted to uplift the lives of these poor men. They want to give the equal rights that every man should have and a world of happiness to everyone.
Medical Missions Made Possible With the Help of Folding Tables
Medical missions can be close to impossible when the team is not fully equipped with the right equipment. While you may think the presence of the doctors, nurses and dentists are already enough then you’re mistaken. You should also consider that in order for these practitioners to do their job properly they must have the necessary tools with them. Aside from the essential stethoscopes, sphygmomanometers and medicines that they’ve got, they must bring folding tables with them so they can accomplish their jobs more efficiently.
Folding tables play a key role during medical mission activities. The nurses need a table surface where they can record the vital signs of the patients. Before each individual can be diagnosed, the nursing staff must be able to make a record of the person’s complaints, signs and symptoms so that he can be assigned to the right specialist.
The doctors, in turn, need their own tables so they can review the records right away and make for a quick diagnosis and treatment of the sick people right before them. On the other hand, dentists carrying out minor tooth extractions and other dental problems certainly need extra surfaces where they can lay down all their gears. After the diagnosis and check-ups are done, patients proceed to the mini-pharmacy station which is created by lining up several foldable tables. There the patients can grab free medicines that they need to help cure their ailments.
